KNOW THE FACTS!
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING: Collective bargaining is the main purpose of our union. This means that the union acts as an agent for all of its members when dealing with an employer. Local 148 leaders have many years of bargaining experience and are experts in contractual issues affecting the workplace. These leaders establish bargaining committees involving rank and file members to address specific issues. The use of such committees ensures the input of the membership at large into areas that are important to them.
Local 148 also represents our members in day - to - day situations. A formal grievance procedure allows workers to seek justice should an employer treat the worker improperly or violates the union’s contract. In some situations, Local 148 calls in labor attorneys to argue the union’s position. The union may also file Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges against the employer with the National Labor Relations Board. appear on.
